George Romney: Portrait of a Gentleman
  oil on canvas, 54 x 72 cm.

 

This beautiful portrait was obscured almost entirely by dirt and heavily darkened varnish to the extent that color was almost imperceptible on it. Cleaning and re-varnishing brought it back to its original brilliance.
