The painting prior to conservation treatment.  The artist used the finished side of a drop-leaf table panel  as support. The presence of heavy overpainting to conceal past repairs to the panel,  grime, and several layers of thick discoloured varnish  necessitated the treatment.

 

Detail during cleaning. Note the massive dark area of over painting on the right side of the image.

 

The painting following restoration. Cleaning also rendered Ryder's monogram visible in the lower left.
